Welcome to the home page for rowing at Wabash College. We have just completed the fall season of rowing and return to the off-season with more experience and determination to bring home the medals next semester.
The season started off full of promise with the varsity bowman Brian Knapp returning from England where he rowed in five races and Brad Erdel returning foreign trained in Vienna, Austria. However, Brad ran into time problems and forced the move of experienced novice Mark Hannaford to the varsity boat. He would join senior Knapp and senior Vice President Eric Helms (#3 varsity last year) as well as sophomore President Andrew Shefter (novice captain last year) to fill out Lil' Bash. The team was not as strong as the year before but more skilled and quicker. Freshman coxswain Paul Stephens hotseated from the eight man boat to steer the varsity four. After a building race at the Head of the Licking in Cincinnati, the team went on to give a good showing on their home course at the Head of the Eagle in Indianapolis. They defeated a University of Cincinnati boat that had beaten them at the Licking and were only one second from beating the top Cincinnati boat. Other big news this year is that Wabash Crew was also able to field an entire novice 8-man crew. Led by returning novice Andrew Kaiser, Vir Aeternus picked up lots of experience and got a taste of real racing at the Head of the Eagle, where they defeated a boat despite three broken seats. Three of their members went on to row in a mixed boat from the Indianapolis Rowing Club the same day and narrowly missed a medal.
