Comps Results Since 1980

"Hey, Bert, is it possible to flunk comps?" "Do you think I can get Distinction?" "Is Econ much harder than other majors?"

We offer the data below to help you answer some of these questions. Click on the link below to see how previous cohorts of Wallies have fared.

Data Sources and Explanation

  • The Econ data were compiled from Barreto's records with help from Sharon Lawton and Julie Olsen of the Wabash College Registrar's Office.
  • The data reflect the number of students in each comps grade category. Since there are double (and, more rarely, triple) majors, the total number of comps grades is GREATER THAN the total number of graduating seniors. Since we (rarely) have some juniors take comps, the total number of Econ comps grades does not exactly equal the number of Econ majors.

"Fail" means the student failed one component of the comprehensive exam. In Economics, the components are macro essay written, micro essay written, objective written, and orals. If a student fails one of these parts, he fails comps and must retake the failed component. For more on how comps are graded in Economics, see How Comps are Graded
